Members chuck McPherson and Ally Benbrook teamed up to man the San Diego Watercolor Society booth at the Point loma Nazarene University's Fall Festival in October. As Chuck painted "live" right in the booth, the crowds multiplied, and Ally handed out hundreds of brochures. meanwhile the Saturday Morning Painters were busy also attracting a crowd. High point of the day was Chuck gifting 2 very interested young artists with the original paintings that he did that day.

July Paint-Out

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Saturday, July 11,2009- Crystal Pier-Pacific Beach....9:00-12:30

We'll meet just North of the Pier in the small grass park at the end of Felspar (one street north of Garnet), There is plenty of street parking plus the large lot at Smart and Final at the corner. If it is warm and not windy, we  may go out to the end of the pier or stay on the grass. Jane Riles, who incidentally has a doctorate in French, is an exciting painter. Her work depicts both San Diego and France, where she lived for ten years. Jane has a diverse art training. She studied painting at Mary Washington College, The Peoria Art Institute Center, The Northwest School of Art, The University of Illinois and here at the Athenaeum. Jane currently teaches at her home studio, and for the eighth year will be holding a painting workshop in France...the Dordogne in September. Jane has a excellent web site at www.Jane Riles.net

Our painting site is full of activity-the boardwalk bikers, dogs, joggers, the Pier, and of course the ocean. Plenty of restaurants and shops close by.

Bring a sweater, a hat and of course... hope for SUN!!!

Directions: Exit Highway #5 at Garnet St (from the North and the South). Go west to Mission Blvd. Turn right one block to Felspar and turn left to Ocean.

Paint-Out- Saturday, June 13,2009- 9:00-12:30- Warren Ranch

We are back to our "second Saturday" formula. And we are also 'back" to a paint-out at the Warren Ranch we cancelled last January because of suspected rain. Our demonstrator this June was to be Mary Sievers who will not be able to attend because of a family illness. So.. we were fortunate to find that celebrated painter from Julian, Stan Goudey who will lead us. Stan has been winning prizes, one after another in important shows- our recent Western Fed, last years International, frequently in our SDWS monthly shows and currently has an exhibition at Santa Isabel Gallery called "A Sense Of Place".

We are returning to Gloria Warren's ranch in Escondido which we visited last May. Those of us who went will surely remember the vistas of the neighboring Guejito (2000 acre)Ranch, the grazing cows, mountains and charming home which was completely rebuilt after '03 fires. Perhaps you will also remember the adventurous roads.

Directions; From the South take Highway #15,exit Via Rancho Parkway(after Rancho Bernardo exits). Turn right

on Via Rancho which will become Bear Valley Parkway. This eventually meets Valley Parkway. Stay right on Valley for about 1/2 mile to Lake Wohlford Rd. and red light. Turn right and now the fun starts! Drive up this winding scenic road for about 2 1/2 miles. After it flattens out you will pass a mobile home park and Lake Wohlford restaurant on left. The lake will be on your right. Continue past the lake to first right hand turn, Guejito Road.

Turn right for approx. 1/4 mile to dirt road on left, Bear Valley Lane.Turn left and now begins the real adventure.

There are a few potholes in the beginning but the road improves. You will pass peach orchards, horse ranches, wild turkeys, miniature ponies (who may come over to your car.) Take heart- the last part looks steep, but it is paved. The view as you approach the house is inspiring- miles and miles of the famous Guejito Ranch and mountain ranges.

From the West:Highway #78 to end, right on Broadway, left on Washinton, right on Midway, left on Valley Parkway and follow directions above.

From the North: Highway#15 South- exit #78 East. Follow as above.

BRING a hat, it will probably be very warm... and water ..also a sandwich as you may stay and paint all afternoon if you wish.
