Finish your plein air efforts, create greeting cards, get a painting ready for exhibition,
work on a series, practice techniques, revive sorrowful paintings.
Discussions inevitably turn to art design and composition and options, art shows and events.
No politics / religion / sales pitches
Focus on painting.
Ear buds are a good item, if you prefer music or words plus a bit of isolation within a group.
Few people enjoy the same music at the same time.

Bring your own kit
Water - Color - Paper/substrate - Brush
There is ramp access to our building 200;
on the southeast side (beside the Quilt Museum)
We have 6' tables and folding chairs.
If you prefer to stand, consider your options.
Let's reduce our footprint within the gallery by bringing a table cover and our own paper towels. SDWS is for watercolor and mixed water media painters (NO oil paints or oily additives, please). Over time, full bodied Acrylics can clog a sink, so plan to clean thick paints from brushes and palettes onto disposable paper towels/rags before rinsing with soap and water to minimize the flow of paint down the drain. Many of us need the commitment on a calendar or to other people - to show up and paint. Otherwise, life presents other things to do. Let's paint together, now and then. ---

Wrong Colors First
If it looks right, it's wrong!
So, paint a bit darker.
Wet Paper on a Slick Board with a dried Up Side
Try working on a slick paint board,
Plexi is ideal
about 1" larger than your
140lb artist's quality watercolor paper.
Have clips available for later,
as the project dries a bit.
Drew will prepare a plan sketch, then,
draw on dry paper
Next, wet back and front of paper entirely.
Slap it to the slick board
and press out bubbles on the back.
NOW, dry the front with a clean towel.
Then, get painting without interruption.
Water will migrate UP to the air for a few hours.
Paper remains flat.
Water is inside the paper and migrating up,
so use more pigment.
Paint quality seems richer, somehow.

Entry Day in the Gallery for May 2024 Member Show

• Please register your paintings through on-line entry,
print entry slips and
bring with paintings.
• We will be carefully checking the framing.
Be sure you follow our policies.
• The monthly show rotation...
Bring ready to hang paintings to our Gallery on
the Last Saturday, before a First Friday
10:00am - 3:00pm
= Saturday, April 27, 2024
• Pay on-line is best
but we will accept payment in our Gallery,
and we have entry slips available
if you can't pre-print at home.
• Each artist may enter
2 regular sized paintings and
2 miniatures, check your measurements.
• Images of paintings must be in .jpg / JPEG format,
must be no more than 1200 pixels on the longest side
and must be no more than 4 MB in size.
(medium size digital sharing of your photos seems to work.)
The images will display
on our website's online slide show of the exhibition
and will make your art available
for online purchase.
• Each month,
Judging will be in-gallery on
The Monday, before First Friday,
Artists will receive
an email of acceptance status
after that processing - often on a Wednesday.
(note: your member account
might display results as Declined
until the processing is accomplished!
Relax and wait for the news in email.)
