Workshops - Expressive Techniques in Mixed Watermedia

Expressive Techniques in Mixed Watermedia
Painting by instructor Painting by instructor

The purpose of the workshop is to teach techniques in mixed media so that each student can best express herself/himself in their own ‘voice’ and not that of the instructor. While a high level of experience is not necessary, your success ratio will improve dependent upon your previous art background. So while beginners may struggle, they are welcome.

The images I’m sending will illustrate the need for good design but beyond that is the appropriate material use for the scale of your painting.

In these images you will see collage elements consisting of fabric, found papers, acrylic paints and more, all of which will be taught in workshop along with a simple method of image transfers and the use of created text printed on colored tissue or waxed papers.

Some of the linear work is done with textile or ‘puff paint’ much of the stamping is done with wine corks or styrofoam from food packaging. All printing is done without the use of any sort of press, just  basic monoprinting on Plexiglas or directly onto the surface using acrylic paint.

All the materials are water based and non toxic.

Nancy Barch

Nancy Barch is a mixed media artist. Having attended art school and then working in the commercial art field she moved into the fine arts arena in 1990 and has finally found her voice.

As Vice President of the American Watercolor Society Nancy was chairman of the annual exhibition. Upon retiring from that position, the search for self  began and, seemingly, has resulted in the discovery of mixed media.

She has been elected into the Senior Artists Initiative of Philadelphia and has been featured as one of the 100  Artists of the Mid-Atlantic, a book published by Amazon.
