Workshops - Critique and Open Studio

Critique and Open Studio
This workshop is for artists who have come to the point where they wish to evaluate their recent work and take it to a more distinguished personal level and/or who seek some clarity about his/her artistic strength and focus.  Katherine works with each artist individually providing an in-depth review, discussing with each student options to make his/her artistic efforts more current and more in keeping with the artist’s ideas and natural strengths.
Lectures make up another part of this workshops, with over 20 powerpoint lectures available to address content and the forms of visual language relating specifically to the class. Contemporary considerations of visual artists in watermedia and artists in general will be showcased.

Katherine teaches one of the most sought after open studio workshops in this country.  Almost all of her workshops have a very long wait list.

This is a workshop aiming to sort and focus your efforts as Katherine works with each artist individually providing an in-depth review, discussing with each artist options to make his/her artistic efforts more personal and more in keeping with the artist’s strengths.

Her students call her “the Art Whisperer” because Katherine gets to each artist’s ideas and strengths quickly and guides each artist’s development of those ideas with insight and encouragement.  Bring what you usually use in your own studio and also the source material you need for your work.  Katherine also brings her many Powerpoint programs to feature various topics and developments in contemporary art.  Her belief is that as artists it is important for us to understand and have a grasp of what is going on in the art world today.

This workshop is helpful for artists who have come to the point where they wish to evaluate their recent work and take it in new directions and/or artists who seek some clarity about his/her artistic strength and focus.

There is a two-pronged approach to Katherine’s teaching:  to understand what we see and to develop insight into whom we are as artists.  Many of her students consider her a mentor, they return often to receive her guidance and to continue that relationship.
