Workshops - Capturing Light and Atmosphere en Plein Air

Capturing Light and Atmosphere en Plein Air

Watercolor is one of the most suitable mediums to use outdoors for its portability and ease of care.  Working outside with all the senses engaged and immersed in the scene gives an artist an ultimate painting experience.  However, it may be surprisingly hard if one is not capable of handling outdoor elements well that are usually not an issue in the studio.  In this workshop, Keiko, primarily a plein-air painter, explains how to tackle basic outdoor elements as well as key artistic elements to build a painting that is simple and strong in composition and content.  She promises two complete demonstrations a day while various subjects and locations will be explored for the participants to learn how to capture light and atmosphere specific to each place.  Her demo is an example of how she edits and interprets visual information presented in reality to turn into a painting that conveys a certain mood evoked by what she sees and feels.  After each demo follows one-on-one guidance when the participants paint.  Group critique may be conducted at the end of day.
