Exhibition Guidelines

  1. Original work created within the past two years. No copies or studies of another artists work will be hung because of copyright laws.
  2. Work to be water media presented in a primarily aqueous manner.
    A. Collage, pastels, colored pencils, watercolor crayons, watercolor pencils, and ink, can be used if integrated into a predominately watercolor painting (80% water media on paper).
    B. Water based media includes - watercolors, acrylics, gouache, and casein. No water-miscible oils.
    C. Works can be presented on watercolor paper, paper based board, and on yupo paper.
    D. Works on watercolor paper, paper based board and on yupo paper must be framed, have a mat or spacers and be covered with plexi glass Floated pieces must not touch the plexi glass. No glass regardless of size, for safety reasons.
  3. Mats: All mats are to be neutrals - white, off white, light gray, black. Mats are to be clean and well cut. Colored liners are optional.
  4. Frames: Simple metal or wood. Frames must be neat and sturdy.
  5. Plexi glass on all framed pieces. No glass, for safety reasons.
  6. Wire: picture wire only, placed one fifth of the way down, pulled tight, looped through hangers and both ends taped.
  7. Backing: foam-core or clean mat board. No cardboard.
  8. Size: There are two categories
    A. Regular: The frame cannot be less then 8 inches on one side or greater then 60 inches on one side.
    B. Miniatures: The frame is not to exceed a combined height and width of 25 inches.
  9. Repetition: A painting may be exhibited only once in a SDWS non-cash monthly show. A painting may be entered again for a cash award show. Any painting having won a cash award may not be entered in another cash award show. The artist will have no more than one painting, in each category, hung during a cash award show.
  10. Insurance: Artist must provide their own coverage. SDWS assumes no liability.
  11. All hung pieces must be for sale.

Gallery Standards

Paintings must be presentable. All works must be clean on the surface and between the plexi glass and the painting. All dust and fingerprints are to be removed. Frames are to be sturdy, scratch and dent free, clean, and have tight corners. All paintings must be left on exhibit until designated end of show. Paintings, once hung must not be rearranged.
