Eligibility

Artists must be current members of SDWS.

  • Artists may submit up to two paintings, and both paintings could potentially be juried into the show.
  • Artists must submit original artwork only, created by them within the past two years.
  • A painting may not have been exhibited in any prior SDWS shows and may not be submitted to future regular member shows.

Notifications

  • The  TriAnnual Members Shows are entered, juried, awarded, exhibited, and sold online.
  • When jurying is complete, accepted artists will be notified by email.
  • Awards for first, second, third place, and three honorable mentions will be given by the juror.
  • Artists receiving awards will be notified by phone.

Sales and Shipping

  • The minimum price for artwork is $150 and does not include framing and matting.
  • All accepted artwork will be featured and available for purchase in the San Diego Watercolor Society online shop at SDWS.org. SDWS receives a 20% commission on all sales.
  • The artist is responsible for delivering the painting to the buyer. This includes making arrangements and paying shipping costs. The sale price should be determined accordingly.
  • Artists and buyers are responsible for providing insurance coverage on artwork if insurance is desired.
  • SDWS assumes NO liability (including after-sale of the work).

How to Enter

You will enter through your Account Page.

  1. Log in at sdws.org
  2. Select the exhibition you wish to enter on your account page.
  3. Enter painting information. Once the entry window closes, no changes, including price, can be made. The art is unframed and unmatted, and the price should reflect this.
  4. Pay your $20 fee (unless you have previously paid the $120 Annual Member Show Fee*).

*The entry fee is either $20 for one or two paintings entered into a single show, OR an annual show fee of $120 can be prepaid. The annual show fee applies to all member shows in that membership year. The SDWS Membership year is from October 1 to September 30.

If you have any questions, please email the Virtual Shows Director: virtualshows@sdws.org

Frequently Asked Questions

How many paintings can I enter?

You may enter two paintings of any size.

How should I ship my painting to the buyer?

Since a TriAnnual Online Member Show painting is not matted or framed, it can be shipped in a tube, envelope, or box. Many members find that the US Postal Service has relatively reasonable charges.

How can I become a member of SDWS?

Please refer to the Membership menu for more information.

I did not choose to pay the $120 annual member show fee when I joined/renewed and would like to pay for that now. How do I do that?

The first step is to log in to the website. If you are on a computer, it will be in the upper right corner of your screen. Then, you will click "______'s Account" to visit your account page. On this page, scroll down until you see a teal-colored button on the right side of your screen that is labeled "Annual Member Show Fee". This will allow you to pay only the $120 and it will be added to your account."

I entered an exhibition and I would like to make a change to my entry/entries. Can I do that?

Once the entry window closes, no changes, including price, can be made. However, up until the close of the official entry period, you may edit your entry/entries. Please do not pay for your entries until you are finished with all entries since this will close out your entry submittal.

Does entering guarantee that my work will be shown?

We always have more art entered than there is room to show, so each month a juror selects the paintings to be shown that month.  In addition, the juror selects the paintings to be honored with certificates. Each show is unique in terms of the Juror and the art submitted for consideration. Art not being accepted is a function of the juror's taste; artists are encouraged to resubmit their paintings. Juror's comments are posted on the website.

How can I help our Gallery thrive?

Artists juried into member shows are strongly encouraged to volunteer. We have many venues for volunteers, and one of these will be a perfect match for you. Please visit https://www.sdws.org/membership to see how you can help keep our beautiful Gallery open.
