SDWS Board positions are for a term of one year. Recruiting for these positions begins in August with the new term beginning October 1st.
At least three positions remain unfilled for the coming year, including that of the 2nd Vice President for the International Exhibition, the Workshops Director, and the Volunteer Director. We will be working to identify persons to fill these positions as soon as possible, so if you have any interest in these positions, or information about a member who might be a "good fit," please contact Susan Hewitt, president@sdws.org.
President: Directs the organization/Board; ensures that SDWS goals are met; provides executive leadership of organization’s business affairs.
1st Vice President: In charge of programs; assists President as president-elect in overseeing SDWS’ goals; oversees Paint-Outs and Volunteer Manager
2nd Vice President: International Exhibition Director; liaisons with artists and juror; coordinates related fundraising/special events, hanging, takedown, returning entries. International Shows Assistant: Assists Director with all processes.
Secretary: Records Board meeting minutes; maintains SDWS documents.
Treasurer: Develops balanced budget, monitors progress and prepares quarterly reports, manages investments.
Workshops Director: Recruit sworkshop instructors; schedules, and coordinates workshops.
Membership Director: Processes and maintains membership records on new and renewing members; prepares Membership Directory.
Western Federation Delegate: Manages SDWS participation in and attends annual WFW show (held at different venues)
Member Shows Director: Schedules monthly shows; oversee juror, entry and hanging process; ensure gallery standards are maintained.
Communications Director: Coordinates publicity, advertisements
Development Director: Writes grants and related reports; directs use of grants awarded; represent SDWS at relevant meetings and at NTC Resident meetings.
Education/Outreach Director: With committee, develops, coordinates, oversees outreach programs (classes and materials for children and seniors in underserved areas), Liberty School programs (for at-risk K-12 students who attend), and grant-funded military programs for military families/children; together with Workshops Director, offers adult beginner watercolor classes.
Technology Director: Provides technology guidance; maintains SDWS Technology Plan; manages technology related relationships and finances; manages changes to SDWS technology (website, local computing/networks and audio/visual capabilities); and supports Gallery, Shows, and Members' technology operations.
Volunteer Director: Plans and conducts annual new member event; monitors volunteer needs and refers new volunteers to appropriate department, maintains records of volunteers for recognition.
Staffing Manager (s): Ensures gallery is open Wednesday – Sunday; recruits, trains, schedules, and oversees gallery staffers; keeps staffing materials current.
eNewsletter Editor: Prepares quarterly newsletter for website, printer. Writes and sends e-Blast as needed.
Hospitality Manager: Coordinates First Friday receptions; provides refreshments for other events as needed.
Paint-Outs: Arranges demos, locations for monthly paint outs.
Event Coordinator: Arranges outside organizations’ use of gallery.
Mailing Manager: Labels, sorts, delivers bulk mail to post office
Workshop Registrar: Registers participants in their chosen workshops.
Library Manager: Supervises systems for checking in and checking out books, videos and DVDs from the SDWS Library. Maintains organization of SDWS Library materials.
