Angela Westengard Wins Best of Miniatures in July Members Show

Angela Westengard, an artist and resident of San Diego, California, won the Best of Miniatures award in the continuingly competitive July 2021 Member’s exhibition “Complement Conversations” held in the gallery of the San Diego Watercolor Society at 2825 Dewey Rd, Suite 105 Building 202, San Diego, CA; and also available to view on the website,  Westengard’s painting entitled “Splish Splash” was selected by prominent artist and juror Dean Mitchell for this honor. Mitchell said of  the painting, “This painting was so fresh and direct . It has a very unsuspecting lyrical quality that stayed with me.”

Angela attended Cal State Northridge, but was not formally trained in fine art. Her career before painting was as a writer/producer for The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences. She also produced shows for The History Channel and regional PBS stations. Her art work, however, has been highly influenced by master painters that guided her over the years in various workshops. These lessons live on in her painting career through the principles of simplicity, boldness, spirituality, and letting go. Although she thoroughly enjoys painting with acrylics, oils, and doing collage work, watercolor’s unpredictability, in particular, reflects not only the spontaneous magic that occurs in her work, but also the power, heart, and soul of who she is. She is ever striving to evolve and, most importantly, to trust the process. Angela is a current member of the San Diego Watercolor Society, and her work is consistently hung in juried shows in their gallery. She has also won numerous awards and has been exhibited in galleries throughout the Redlands, San Bernardino, and Riverside areas of Southern California. To see more of her work, find her at

The Gallery Exhibit will run through Saturday August 29, 2021 in the SDWS gallery and on the website at where the paintings can be both viewed and purchased from the Online Store.
