Robin Erickson is a very fine artist living right here in the San Diego County community of La Mesa. Not that San Diego doesn’t have many fine artists – we do! But Robin is extra special this month in having three serious achievements coming all together, a real “triple crown” for her this August. First of all, her work was accepted into the San Diego Watercolor Society’s (SDWS) August 2025 Members show, on view at the SDWS gallery at 2825 Dewey Road in Liberty Station. This painting, titled “Eucalyptus Jungle” is one in a series of tree paintings that Robin has been exhibiting lately. It can be viewed at the gallery through September 13, 2025, or at the SDWS web page here: https://www.sdws.org/galleryart-detail.php?cat=7077&ID=45&sortorder=4

Not only that, but another painting in this series is featured on the cover of the Fall 2025 issue of Watercolor Artist. This painting is titled “Skywalker”. The magazine noted that Erickson was trained not as an artist, but as a mathematician, who—up until 2003—was working as an analyst for the Naval Research and Development Laboratory, in San Diego. She finds that the more mathematical left side of her brain informs the artistic workings of the right side of her brain. She understands that she really does look at things more carefully and more analytically than most people, always loving the details of what she sees and what she paints.

Finally, Robin’s work was not only accepted into the SDWS’s 45th International Exhibition, but also garnered a top award in that highly competitive show, which will be on display at the Liberty Station Gallery in October 2025. This is a show that is not to be missed, as it represents the best watercolors submitted from a truly international body of artists. And Robin’s work is right up there with the best!
