Poway Artist Cynthia Roach Wins First Place

Cynthia Roach, an artist and resident of Poway, California, won the first-place award in the continuingly competitive June 2021 Member’s exhibition “Violent Hues” held virtually in June 2021, on The San Diego Watercolor Society website, www.sdws.org.  Roach’s painting entitled “Friday” was selected by prominent artist and juror Bob Burridge for this honor, out of more than 300 entries. Burridge said of  the painting, “The shocking simplicity and delicateness of this painting made it memorable. I feel that “Friday” is a step forward in painting, and shows the painter’s imagination and skill.”

Cynthia says that she was always interested in artsy stuff and crafty things as she grew up.  She wanted to go into the art field and was thrilled when she was accepted into The Cleveland Institute of Art and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Industrial Design with a graphics minor. After art school, Cynthia had many art related jobs like pattern designer for the Pickard China Company in Illinois and sign painting at FairPlay Scoreboard Company in Iowa. Getting married and being a Navy military wife opened her eyes to new adventures and experiences, including living and working in Hawaii on the island of Oahu in the marketing department on the Kaneohe Bay. Cynthia has now come full circle back to enjoying her love for fine art. She works in numerous media, starting from drawing to oil painting in art school to acrylics and now watercolor, her most challenging medium. Cynthia enjoys a variety of subject matter and is always looking for something new and interesting. One of her many joys has been working for Monart School of the Arts where she did after school enrichment art programs. She is a member of the San Diego Watercolor Society, Northwest Watercolor Society, and National Watercolor Society, as well as of the Ramona Art Guild. Her work can be seen at https://www.zhibit.org/allmostfamus1

The Virtual Exhibit will run through Saturday June 26, 2021 on The San Diego Watercolor Society’s website at https://www.sdws.org/galleryart.php?cat=6968 where the paintings can be both viewed and purchased from the Online Store.
